Work with Me

You hold the Key!

INVEST IN YOUR WELLBEING

I understand that therapy is a Serious Commitment towards a Better Life;

It’s also a place for you to experience growth and healing in a way that can change your life.

What is stopping you from achieving the results you want (by yourself)?

MY TIME IS THE MOST VALUABLE THING I HAVE TO OFFER ANYONE. IT IS IRREPLACEABLE!

I DO NOT TAKE IT FOR GRANTED AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU. I HAVE SPENT MANY YEARS BEING EDUCATED & MASTERING MY CRAFT, NOT TO MENTION THE THOUSANDS OF $$$ I’VE INVESTED TO HONE MY EXPERTISE.

BUT ALL OF THAT PALES TO MY TIME AND ATTENTION AND HOW I CHOOSE TO SPEND IT. HOW ABOUT YOU…?

THIS IS YOUR LIFE - IS IT EVERYTHING YOU HOPED IT WOULD BE?

Let’s get Real: How much is your health, relationships and happiness worth? Do you want to increase your confidence, peace, calmness, peace, self-esteem, self-worth, empowerment, control, boundaries, intimacy, equality, mutuality, and improve your interpersonal relationships?

My purpose is to work myself out of a job once you have internalized and incorporated all the skills developing a repertoire of things that helps you help yourself.

All of my sessions are video and audio recordings and are my property alone and not subject to subpoena or available to use in court or other legal proceedings. If clinically necessary, these recordings may be shared with the specific client involved for therapeutic issues. I do not work with any client’s who refuse to give me complete mutual consent to consult with their primary care provider and/any all specialists relevant to their care.

When you finally make the decision to go to therapy, you’re ready to get down to business. As a therapist, I am 100% committed to your, I am all in and need you to be all in as well. I stay laser-focused on my clients’ goals. This way, you can get what it is that you need and go on with your life.

I keep my caseload small so that I can provide an experience that is unique and custom-tailored to each client. This means that I work in a way that has ample availability during the day for those with flexible work schedules, being easily accessible in between sessions through a secure messaging platform, and sending supplemental resources, videos, and articles to clients so that they can get the most out of their treatment.

Most of my clients benefit from a short-term treatment approach (usually around 8-12 sessions), but dependent on each client’s issues it can last 6 months or even years. Like I said before I am all in to helping you reach your goal of achieving a healthier quality of life. A few ways that I am able to help you see results in such a short period of time is by:

  • Coming up with objective and measurable goals on the onset of therapy.

  • Administering questionnaires to measure progress over time using real numbers so that you can see improvement.

  • Checking in with clients on a regular basis to ensure that they feel their needs are being met and that we’re getting to the root of the problem.

IN ORDER TO ARRIVE AT A CORRECT DESTINATION WE FIRST MUST BE SURE WE KNOW FROM WHERE WE ARE STARTING:

ALL CLIENTS WILL BE SENT AN INTAKE PACKET ONCE AN APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN MADE. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU COMPLETE IT BEFORE HAND OR COME IN 30 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR SCHEDULED SESSION TO FILL OUT YOUR PART.

A DETAILED AND COMPLETE HISTORY IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO GET THE BEST CARE AVAILABLE. I WILL GO OVER THE INTAKE FORMS WITH YOU BEFORE STARTING OUR FIRST SESSION.

THE INITIAL SESSION USUALLY INCLUDES MY GOING OVER SOME PSYCHO-EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION WITH YOU TO ENSURE WE HAVE A SOLID FOUNDATION ON WHICH TO BUILD. THIS WILL CONSIST AT THE VERY MINIMUM OF INFORMATION RELEVANT TO THOUGHT DISTORTIONS, BOUNDARIES, AND COMMUNICATION ISSUES.

ALL OF THIS MUST BE DONE TOGETHER BEFORE WE CAN START THE TREATMENT PROCESS.

I WILL NEED TO KNOW WHY YOU CHOSE TO DO COUNSELING NOW, WHAT GOAL(S) YOU HOPE TO REACH, AND WHAT YOU EXPECT TO GET OUT OF COUNSELING?

·       A thorough review of your intake paperwork and report of findings from your intake assessment and questionnaire.

·       Individualized treatment plan (no one-size-fits-all approach here) that includes measurable and objective goals, as well as an estimated timeline for how long therapy may last based on your presenting concerns.

·       Customary care coordination with any other professionals involved in your care. If you’re under the care of a physicianpsychiatrist, or any other provider, I will reach out to those professionals with your permission so that you can get the best, holistic care possible.

INSURANCE

do not participate with any insurance panels and am considered an out-of-network provider.

With insurance companies dictating clinical decisions such as length of treatmentfrequency/length of sessions, and mandated mental health diagnosis for reimbursement, I have decided to part ways from all insurance companies and instead focus on providing the best care to all of my clients without being controlled by insurance companies.

Bypassing insurance allows utmost flexibility & privacy for my clients.

*Whereas insurance will only cover face-to-face sessions, I am now able to provide online therapy for those who travel for work as well as phone sessions for those needing extra support in between sessions.

I do not like labels, and have found no one neatly fits into any authorized category designated by the DSM and the insurance companies. There are no cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all problems, diagnoses or disorders. Everyone’s life and issues are unique. Without having to provide a mental health diagnosis, I’m also able to keep your records completely secure and confidential. There will be no diagnosis on your permanent health record, and no one will ever know you’re in therapy unless you tell them.

**Please note that not all insurance companies provide coverage for online therapy, so you will need to check with your insurance carrier if you are wanting to to reimbursed by them to cover a portion of online therapy sessions.**

For Individuals

As a courtesy to any individual clients who wish to utilize their insurance benefits, I am happy to provide you with documentation that you can submit to your health insurance company. If your plan covers out of network outpatient mental health services, you may be able to get a portion of your session costs reimbursed.

Most of my clients prefer not to use their insurance in order to preserve their privacy; instead, many opt to use their Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flex Spending Accounts (FSA) if those funds are available.

For Couples

Marriage counseling is not covered under most health insurance plans, regardless of whether or not a therapist in in network with an insurance company.

In order for insurance to reimburse for counseling, the therapist must diagnose the client with a mental health disorder, and there is no reimbursable diagnosis code for marriage counseling.

You still have options, so continue reading to see if any of them make sense for you and your situation.

So What Are Your Options?

If the cost of counseling seems to be out of reach, consider the following:

  1. Use pre-tax dollars. Did you know that you can use your Health Savings or Flexible Spending Account to pay for therapy using pre-tax dollars? Please note that HSA accounts make it harder to get couples therapy covered, so check on that before you get started.

  2. Check if you or your spouse’s employer has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). EAP is an employee benefit that allows anywhere from 1-8 sessions (including couples counseling) and the employer foots the bill for the sessions. If you and your partner choose to continue therapy after your approved sessions, only then will you be responsible for payment.

  3. Speak with your tax preparer to see if you could deduct therapy expenses from your taxes as an out-of-pocket health expense.

  4. Understand that therapy is an investment in yourself and your relationship. Compare the financial cost of short-term therapy to the possible long-term emotional costs of NOT seeking help: The benefits far outweigh the risks.

No Therapy, Brainspotting, or Hypnotherapy will work or be successful unless the client wants it to be. As much as they are willing to join in the journey and own their participation in the process is the same degree to which they will experience change and a better life. Any coercion or pressure by the therapist will only create resistance, so there must be a strong therapeutic bond of trust and a safe, nonjudgmental environment in which the client can become vulnerable, let down their defenses, and experience something different than what they have always experienced, a new and better way.

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Do not believe that you can come to counseling for one hour a week or every two weeks… (while having 167 hours a week outside of the session for you to enact and practice faithfully those things you learned in session). If you do not consistently work on change outside of the session you will accomplish nothing and your lifestyle will NOT change. You will simply be deceiving yourself and wasting my time (and your $). I have limited years remaining and want to invest my time and talents in those who do not take it for granted. As you review this website you will discover I am a very unconventional kind of counselor. If you want traditional counseling please go to one of the many cookie-cutter counselors offered in your area. I cannot “FIX” you or want a better/healthier life for you than you do, but I can empower you and walk along side you on your journey. Like I have said before, I am 100% committed to you and all in, I need you to be committed and 100% all in as well to be successful at treating you. We HAVE to work together - collaboratively.

HOW DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

We offer an initial free phone consultation.  It's important that we are the right fit for you, if so, we will schedule your appointment (423) 458-5284.

WHAT WILL I HAVE TO DO?

Counseling is designed to offer insight and awareness, as well as to empower motivation for change, alternate perspectives and possibilities for addressing the identified problem, thereby creating a safe and healthy relationship with self and others.

The majority of work is done outside of the office and requires active preparation and participation on the part of you and / or your family. Therapy can be challenging and during the course of treatment, sensitive matters will be discussed. This may at first intensify the emotions, thoughts and behaviors experienced but this is normal and typically required for desired change. It is common during the therapeutic process to feel scared, anxious, angry or vulnerable as new information is discovered and shared. You may spend an hour a week in session (or every other week) that means you have 167 hours per week outside of counseling in which you must put into practice what you have learned in session if you want to overcome your issues that brought you into therapy and make a permanent lifestyle change.

WHAT WILL YOU, AS MY THERAPIST, DO?

My work as a counselor is to collaborate with you and facilitate or guide you towards making healthy choices that help you grow, rather than working to fix or change you.  As such I will help you to understand what motivates you towards change, as well as what gets in the way of the change you desire. I will support you with empathy and compassion. I will be your mirror, providing you an honest reflection of who you are now. I will be your collaboration partner, and will encourage you to move towards a happier, healthier, more confident YOU.

ARE YOUR SERVICES CONFIDENTIAL?

All services I offer are confidential. But the following situations legally require me to break confidentiality:

  • If someone tells me they are going to harm themselves or someone else,

  • If someone reports current child abuse, current elderly abuse, or

  • If my records are subpoenaed by a court.
